Design Intern - Spring
Job Description
FUNCTION
Our Product Development department is seeking a Design Intern to work part-time or full-time, January 2011 through the end of May 2011. Internship may be available for extension into the summer of 2011
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Note: Other duties may be assigned)

Assist with various aspects of the product development process including but not limited to:
- Collaborate with Design Manager and Design Assistant to create and maintain accurate technical specifications for each product (tech packs)
- Participate in ideation and brainstorming of new products
- Creating design sheets ( new product announcements, sales sheets, styles guides, media guides and any other materials needed by management)
- Understand and seek to further knowledge of the production process as it relates to a specific category
- Assist in day to day projects including filing, organizing or photo copying
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Candidates must be pursuing or recently completed (within the last six months) a bachelors degree in Graphic Design
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Strong organizational and presentation skills

Design Assistant
Job Description
FUNCTION
Provide operational support to Design Manager in the creation and execution of the product line. Responsible for researching trends, communicating with a cross functional team and assist the Design Manager with product development and presentation of product line in keeping key dates of the seasonal calendar.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Note: Other duties may be assigned)

Assist with various aspects of the product development process including but not limited to:
- Create and maintain accurate product Line List to be used by a cross-functional teams in determining product assortment
- Collaborate with the Design Manager in order to design and develop products that are on brand, are in keeping with the company’s mission statement, priced appropriately and that meet margin requirements
- Collaborate with Design Manager to create and maintain accurate technical specifications for each product (tech packs)
- Review development samples and communicate to both internal and external parties regarding changes from original specification in keeping with the deadlines for each season
- Set up for line meetings and presentations to both internal and external customers
- Preparation of calendars for new products and manage deadlines for each delivery
- Responsible for sample management including tracking and recording of outgoing and incoming samples, and organizing all development and photo samples
- Work with SGS to test material and components during the product development stage, prior to production, as well as collaborate with Quality to assess testing needs for new materials, components and products
- Preparation of worksheets to monitor testing, photo samples, style analysis, and key calendar dates to ensure on time approvals for each category
- Assist in the analysis of sales data and forecasts for current and new introductions with Design Manager and Merchandise Management
- Shop the market on a regular basis for product inspiration and to gain competitive knowledge
- Understand and seek to further knowledge of the production process as it relates to a specific category
- Set up for line meetings and presentations to both internal and external customers
- Participate in evaluation of all product line concepts along with other product development team members
- Assist in day to day projects including filing, organizing or photo copying
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school graduate. Bachelor’s degree in textile design, graphic design or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years experience.
